“The Quatermass Conclusion” is the fourth movie-length installment in the long-lived “Professor Quatermass” series of films, the first of which appeared fifty years ago with Brian Donlevy in the title role. That was “The Creeping Unknown,” which remains scary even after the unlit jading of our collective special-effects appetite. Donlevy reprised the Quatermass character in the 1958 sequel, known in the United States as “The Enemy from Station.” Andrew Keir took over for the 1967 “Quatermass and the Pit,” called “Five Million Years to Earth” for transatlantic audiences. It wasn’t until 1979 that screenwriter Nigel Kneale managed to pick up a fourth Quatermass chronicle on film, this time as a BBC “mini-series” in four parts featuring John Mills as a by now weak protagonist. This is conceptually the most ambitious of the Quatermass stories: Kneale sets it in a world afflicted everywhere by social and economic collapse and – this is a key element in the unfolding tale – the withdrawal of young people, especially adolescents, from all communal ties. The landscape swarms with packs of juvenile “Site People,” as they call themselves, dressed in flower-child fashion awaiting their deliverance to a paradise planet. They occupy that their redemption will occur at the feeble megalithic sites and it is to these that they gravitate. Redemption it is not. Quatermass, coming to London from the countryside to gaze a lost grandchild and drawn into the investigation of events, theorizes about “the harvesting of mankind.” He is aided by an astrophysicist played by Simon McCorkindale, whom many viewers will peek as a veil presence of the time. This is the most apocalyptic of the Quatermass stories, more so even than “Quatermass and the Pit,” with its mass revival of dilapidated Martian “urge memories” in the human population of London, and with its subsequent wrathful “cleansing of the Martian hives.” The images of British society – and by implication all societies all over the world – in its material and right downward-spiral are stark and disturbing. A few scenes of a near-earth situation site and of a plot shuttle in distant orbit are unnecessary in that they sight toy-like and detract from rather than add to the verisimilitude of the production, but this is quibbling. The atmosphere over the four hours of the record becomes increasingly desperate and grim. Important equipment breaks down and is irreparable; key people die in riots. The climax smacks of the nihilism that I associate with the 1970s, but it could be interpreted as throwing Quatermass into the role of redeemer, complete with martyric self-sacrifice. A brief epilogue seems tacked on, as though the producers could not fetch the uncompromising final scene of Kneale’s script – but it does allow for some détente, which might be needed in the moment. Recommended for its far-above-average intelligence: “The Quatermass Conclusion” refreshingly does away with the hoary cliché that the young, and only the young, can attach the world.

If your are familiar with the classic Quatermass films of ragged and you haven’t heard of this one, then let me hold you in. I don’t want to give too remarkable of the storyline away so I’ll try not to spoil it for you. The author of all the Quatermass films, Nigel Kneale had written this to be the follow up to Quatermass And The Pit – he was commissioned by the by the BBC (world well-known UK channel) to do it on the attend of that film’s success. After reading the script, the BBC decided that it would be too expensive to accomplish and so it was abandoned. However, in the wake of Finish Encounters and Star Wars in 1977,the sci fi genre was support in fashion and Euston Films (English film company) place the money up – one and a half million pounds. That was a lot of money in 1978. Don’t grief, the director Piers Haggard did an superior job. John Mills, cast as ageing Professor Quatermass,is safe. The narrative is station in a world years from ’78, say slack 90′s and civilisation around the globe is collapsing. The United Kingom has been reduced to a kind of civil war Yugoslovia. America is in a complete mess and so is the whole world for that matter. Gangs of killers skedaddle the the abandoned inner cities. Fuel and food shortages have become the norm and in the countryside, bands of mystics calling themselves the Planet People accelerate round chanting their crazed opinion that they will soon leave this sick world. Out of all this chaos, Quatermass arrives in London to appear as a TV guest on a gradual night NASA programme. It’s being broadcast on the last operating TV spot in the country. As they link up to a live satelitte idea of the recent American-Soviet status area, all hell brakes loose when it dissintegrates before their eyes and all astronuats are lost. The request is – why did this happen? Suddenly, things collect more mysterious when thousands of Planet People around the world launch to dissappear after converging on ragged megalith sites.

This video station is a four hour narrative that will have you gripped on the edge of your seat. It remains suprisingly undated in an era of cellnet phones, internet and consumerism. I could imagine Nigel Kneale writing stories for Star Meander (suitable as it is already) . Win this and blow your mind. The Planet People mild haunt my dreams with their chant of “Leh!Leh!Leh!Leh!Leh!Leh…”

Anyone who doubts that God created the universe needs to perceive this dvd. I have watched God of Wonders dvd several times and each time it leaves me wondering how anyone can say there is no God or the world came about by evolution. The information about creation is supported by loyal scientists with PH’ds in biology, physics, etc. This isn’t some mushy, improper class, religious work. Each speaker clearly explains different facet of nature and God’s handiwork using scientific concepts. Also, after watching this DVD I realize day to day worries of this life are meaningless. Why exertion about earthly stuff. Do your best and if you trust God he will prefer care of the rest. I pray all who glance this DVD will be encouraged to accumulate to know the God who made the universe. L.B in Virginia

I had ample hopes for this prove even after the first couple episodes, but it never did suppose and it unbiased all fell flat on its face. none of the anecdote ever really makes sense and barely even tries to account for itself. its all honest a discombobulated crap fest, and should not be viewed by fans of anime, or the video games. utilize your money on better series not this one.

If you assume 23 dollars is a suitable deal: the point to is only 13 episodes in length. I knew by the second episode when Dante had recruited a small girl for a side kick that it was going to be poor, and yet for some reason i watched the rest of this indicate. I really wish i didn’t.

It’s honest that Hammer’s Dracula DID need to recede out of the 19th century for the sake of refreshing the spot. While it could have been better, it came out quite kindly in my thought. The older films were very estimable atmospherically, but lacked originality. This movie has that. The Gloomy Plague space was really a tremendous twist, though it might have made a better ending if Dracula had won! One dilemma though, these movies engage too long to introduce Dracula. Especially this one since it didn’t have the atmosphere of the other films, though it was vast when Dracula did reveal up! As for the DVD I bought, it was only 6.99, though it had almost no extras. Unbiased biographies on Lee and Cushing and a inquire. I don’t engage the company, but it was not anchor bay. It was Widescreen, but I don’t know if it was a “groundless” widescreen like the Anchor Bay one supposedly is. All in all though, I was jubilant. Objective hope I didn’t fetch ripped off with the False Widescreen.

Hammer film’s Satanic Rites of Dracula is the final Christopher Lee role as Dracula in the Hammer series. The movie sets Dracula in the original world (place a few years after Dracula A.D.1972) with the ample Peter Cushing as his antagonist. I loved this movie and understanding it a radiant conclusion to the Hammer line. Dracula has been revived into the current world and is functioning as a reclusive wealthy industrialist residence on introducing a deadly plague into the world. Dracula is obsessed with taking revenge on the Van Helsing decendents and intends to consume them as pawns in his diabolical view. This film has somewhat of a James Bond feel yet maintains the the mystery and suspense of previous Hammer incarnations.

“[Bach was] the most stupendous miracle in all music.”

The above quotation was uttered by the titanic opera composer Richard Wagner who admired the composer Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 to 1750) . (The quotation that titles this review was uttered by Ludwig van Beethoven who also admired him.)

You’ll regain this quotation (and the one that titles this review) in this documentary that presents the life and works of Bach. Besides learning about the man tedious the music, we also acquire to hear, through sincere performances, exquisite extracts of his universally inviting music.

Throughout this documentary are brief comments made by respected others such as leading Bach scholars, pianists, music professors, and conductors. I found all the comments very animated.

The film is narrated by the actor (especially known for his Shakespearean talents) Kenneth Branagh.

What amazed me about this documentary is that, despite being only an hour long, it covers an fantastic amount regarding Bach’s life. With the addition of valid performances of Bach’s works, this film is also incredibly delicious and not ever tedious.

I will give Bach’s distinguished works below and include a specific extract example(s) of such a work from this film in parenthesis:

(1) Sacred vocal works: over 200 church cantatas (Credo) ; 7 motets (Mass in B minor, St. Matthew Passion)

(2) Secular vocal works: over 200 cantatas (Cantatas 131 and 140)

(3) Orchestral music: 4 orchestral suites, 6 Brandenburg Concertos (Brandenburg Concerto in D major), concertos for one and two violins & for one, two, three, and four harpsichords (Concerto for Harpsichord)

(5) Keyboard music (The Well-Tempered Clavier, Goldberg Variations, The Art of the Fugue, Air on the G String)

Finally, the DVD (the one released in 2006) is perfect in characterize and sound quality. It has no extras.

In conclusion, for those looking to acquire a speedily map to learn about J.S. Bach and become acquainted with his music, this is the film to contemplate!!

Gentleman Jim features what I mediate may be the most relaxed performance I have seen Errol Flynn give in a movie. He’s seems very comfortable and at home in this somewhat fictious sage of the life of boxer James Corbett. Flynn is cocky and charming as usual in this account of how Corbett rose from being a bank teller to world champion. A dazzling and sassy Alexis Smith is along as the like interest, while Alan Hale is his very Irish father, William Frawley his manager, Jack Carson his best buddy, and Ward Bond his biggest rival. Everyone is very trustworthy and appears to be having a gigantic time. The boxing sequences are well staged by director Raoul Walsh, and friendly doses of humour are found throughout. It teeters on corny at times, but it is all played with such energy and distinct enjoyment, the corny moments can be overlooked. As usual for most Warner Bros biopics, I’m positive it takes many liberties with the truth, but it doesn’t matter. The film is very keen in its presentation of his life and how boxing evolved.

Errol Flynn is largely forgotten today by the average movie goer which is a shame since he was a obliging superstar of his time. His aesthetic advantageous looks and charm combined with a rakish off camouflage behavior catipulted him to like a flash success and gave fuel to detractors who claimed there was miniature talent slow the perfectly chisled facade.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Gentleman Jim! Click Here

In reality Flynn was a largely underrated actor shackled to many less than stellar productions by the studio’s type casting. His talent for light comedy shows through brilliantly in Gentleman Jim this early forties biopic of Heavyweight Champion James J. Corbett. The movie is lawful fluff when it comes to Corbett’s personal life, but largely factual to history concering his pugilistic efforts. Corbett did fight on barges and in rich sporting clubs to circumvent the public ban on the sport at the ruin of the nineteenth century.

Flynn’s powerful atheticism adds further creedence to his first-rate portrayl of the turn of the century fighter. An accomplished amateur boxer in his youth, Fylnn was widely regarded as the best tennis player in Hollywood and his fluid ring movmenents are a welcome relief to the bumbling conceal fight efforts of Gable, Tracy and Cagney. The reserved post fight meeting of the defeated Sullivan, well

played by Ward Bond and a restrained Flynn as his conquerer, is quite touching and serves as further evidence of Flynn’s acting skills.

Watching Gentleman Jim is stout and intelligent fun and can only do one wish Flynn was given more oppurtunities to present a largely untapped talent.

Most folks will pay attention to this film becuase it’s an early allotment by choreographer Bob Fosse — but it is a fun bit of froth that easily stands on its occupy. An absolutely enjoyable musical comedy, starring Betty Garrett as a colorful smalltown girl distinct to execute it in Current York City. She moves there with her with her glamourous, ditzy sister Eileen, whose safe looks inaugurate more doors than do Garrett’s brains and moxie. A nice film about struggling to catch ahead in the Stout Apple, with a script that takes its time and several exuberently goofy dance numbers, gleefully choreographed by a young Bob Fosse, who also plays one of the sister’s avid suitors. The penultimate dance scene is side-splittingly hilarious, featuring a swarm of recently disembarked Cuban sailors on the prowl for American women, who perform an inexhaustable conga line that snakes chaotically through the gal’s itsy-bitsy apartment. Thoroughly inviting… a immense, lighthearted film with some extraordinary acting and luminous, winning performances by all keen.

MY SISTER EILEEN was Columbia’s reply when they could not get the film rights to Astounding TOWN, the hugely-successful Broadway musical version of Ruth McKenney’s “Eileen Stories”. Columbia had previously filmed MY SISTER EILEEN to acclaim in 1942 with Rosalind Russell as Ruth and Janet Blair as Eileen. Roz later wowed Broadway when she made her musical Ruth debut in Fabulous TOWN in 1953 (playing the role again for a TV version of the tuner in 1957) . This musical version of MY SISTER EILEEN features a gain that cannot even compare with that for Unbelievable TOWN (despite the music by Jule Styne – `Mr Broadway Overture’ himself) .

Betty Garrett is pleasant casting for the role of plain-speaking Ruth, and Janet Leigh makes the role of flirty Eileen her gain. Jack Lemmon plays Ruth’s boss Bob Baker (he has a charming musical style) whilst Bob Fosse and Tommy Rall play two suitors competing for Eileen’s hand. Dick York (of `Bewitched’ fame) plays the girls’ suitable footballing-neighbour Shatter and Kurt Kasznar plays the double-talking landlord Appopolous to perfection. A large diagram to consume a Saturday afternoon.

The DVD presents a substantial recent anamorphic print of the film. Extras consist of the current trailer plus trailers of other classic Columbia releases.

It is a bit unfair to compare this joint US/Italian myth production from 1960 with the other blockbusters being produced around this time like “Ben Hur”, and “Cleopatra”, however as a smaller scale danger in this genre there is noteworthy to like about “Esther and the King”. The gradual 50′s and early 60′s were a sigh time for these types of productions when alot of film work was being done in Rome rather than in Hollywood because of the lower costs and tax benefits. While this film is very loosely based on the Traditional Testament book of Esther, it could never be said to adhere to historical fact or chronology and features actors who certainly dont fit the racial groups point to in the areas where the anecdote takes site. Those things aside I aloof mediate it a gracious if not spectacular difficulty that is sincerely played and is blessed with terrific space photography courtesy of the legendary Mario Bava, lovely costumes and richly drawn technicolour all wrapped up in terrific cinemascope. Richard Egan, a traditional of 1950′s tale productions and Joan Collins play the two lead characters in this yarn and actually acquire an consuming team while never for one moment looking like used Persians. Egan in particular at least visually is very miscast but he does unruffled manage to add some depth to his character of King Ahasuerus.

Taking dwelling in the fifth Century BC “Esther and the King”, relates the account of the all conquering King Ahasuerus of Persia who is better known in history as Xerxes, a very notorious name in Persian history. We leer the titanic Persian Empire at the peak of its all conquering brilliance with as the narration in the prologue informs us, an empire that stretches from India to Ethiopia. King Ahasuerus has unprejudiced returned from a triumphant campaign in Egypt to bag not all well with how his kingdom and Palace has been rush in his absense. He finds he has to contend with the devious ambition of his First Minister Haman, (Sergio Fantoni),who in his absence has been taking the law into his enjoy hands dispensing his ruthless effect of “justice” without trial. Queen Vashti (Daniela Rocca), has also been busy during his absence conducting a blatant affair with Haman. Only the devotion and wise counsel of his advisor Mordecai (Denis O’Dea), a secret worshiper of Jehovah, can be relied upon in these uncertain times. Long suspecting Queen Vashti of infidelty, Ahasuerus banishes her from his peer however at the welcome home banquet she appears anyway and disgraces herself in front of the king by performing a seductive dance. Haman decides now that Vashti is of no consume to his plans for seizing the throne and has her secretly murdered hoping to position his gain favourite concubine on the throne in her spot. However Ahasuerus has other plans and a search is begun for superb candidates for the role of Queen. Meanwhile Mordecai’s neice Esther (Joan Collins), is preparing to marry her sweetheart Simon (Rik Battaglia) who has unprejudiced returned from the Egyptian campaign with Ahasuerus. The king’s men however snatch Esther away unprejudiced before the wedding and Simon becomes a hunted man when he puts up resistance to the King’s orders. Esther is taken to the Palace where she is tutored by the head Eunuch in the ways of a potential queen. Haman’s plans to have his bear choice chosen by the king however near to naught as Esther impresses everyone by her humility. Haman sets out to end Esther before the king makes his choice and employes the same hired killer to do away with her like he did Queen Vashti. However a mistake is made and Haman’s candidate is murdered . King Asasuerus is immediately taken by Esther’s beauty and modest bearing and he selects her as his modern Queen. Over time Esther begins to feel actual esteem for the king and influences him toward better treatment of the jewish minorities within the borders of the Persian Empire. Crooked on revenge however Haman becomes a uncertain rival for Esther and after deliberatly setting up Mordecai to appear to be a traitor to the King, Ahasuerus sends him away, sets up a policy of the jews having to abandon their faith or be killed and worse calm removes Esther from his leer. Haman at last makes his go to accept the throne and attempts to grasp the King’s life honest outside the city. Informed by the fugitive Simon about who really tried to ambush him Ahasuerus learns from Haman’s off sider of the dependable person responsible and that Esther and Mordecai are innocent of any horrible doing. Arriving encourage in the city honest in time to finish Haman from hanging Mordecai for supposed treason Haman himself is captured and hung in his status. After returning from his next campaign Ahasuerus realises how he was totally mislead and when he is greeted by a tranquil devoted Esther he takes her attend into her rightful station as his queen.

“Esther and the King”, makes first and foremost an curious fable of palace intrigue and if you ignore the shaky history applied here, most notably in Ahasuerus’ plans to swear the young Alexander of Greece a exact lesson despite the fact that Alexander the Expansive wasn’t even born in this period, you are guaranteed delightful viewing. Richard Egan does acquire an irregular choice as the King of Persia with his resplendent complexion and shipshape shaven face and a noteworthy better attempt of depicting historically suitable Persians was done in another of his efforts “The 300 Spartans” in 1962. Joan Collins despite her hold quoted despise of this film grief is refreshingly staunch as the sterling hearted Esther and it is moving to survey her in a role where she has a sympathetic character for a change. Her scenes especially with Sergio Fantoni’s villianess Haman do bring the film alive and provide it with some staunch spark. Denis O’Dea as the helpful Mordecai also brings a calm dignity to the proceedings as the secret jew who has the ear and trust of the King and his speeches about tolerance of minorities and their beliefs now has a curiously novel ring to it. Also in the brief role of the disgraced veteran Queen Vashti Daniela Rocca, a magnificent Italian actress also makes the most of her brief scenes as the unfaithful Queen who pays a high heed for her infidelities. The search for of “Esther and the King”, is what you would examine of extinct of these older fable productions. It boasts some very exquisite status photography in the ruins honest outside Rome which stand in for old Persia and the interior sets are suitably lavish with Ahasuerus’ harem in particular being marvellously opulent and garish. The main palace sets have an entertaining mix of Babylonian and Persian designs that were lifted from extinct historical texts by the designers and the quick-witted colour photography also greatly enhances the eye and feel of “Esther and the King”, making it a proper addition to the “epic’ stable of films.

Directed, produced and partly written by Hollywood conventional Raoul Walsh it marked one of the last film efforts by this legendary Hollywood identity before he retired. For a hobble attend to broken-down style movie making on a lavish scale “Esther and the King”, is a obliging if not vast example of the novel collaboration between Italian and American filmmakers in the early 1960′s. The films underlying message despite its mishandling of historical fact is aloof a relevant one however and the earnest performances design this film a edifying addition to any fable movie lovers collection.

Contentwise, I won’t toss darts OR roses. This is genre stuff. You either like it or you don’t. My beef is with the technical quality. It is unpleasant. (1) It is NOT in widescreen (Cinemascope), which it ought to be for a biblical spectacular. There is simply no excuse for cranking out a full-screen treatment in a DVD issued in the year 2000. (2) The so-called “digital remastering” must be kitchen-table grade, because the shapes are fuzzy, colors oversaturated, visuals mushy. This DVD should be withdrawn from the market and a original widescreen version substituted. I regain better quality from my VHS of this movie than the DVD I purchased. Lousy lousy lousy, as I said.

If you’re looking for review of the film itself, notice elsewhere. As I’ve done previously I wish to focus on the quality of the characterize and audio and leave the writing of the film review for those better friendly to it.

This movie is encoded on Blu-Ray using the AVC codec and is brought in using 1080p that most query from Blu-Ray. The video itself is less than stellar in terms of presentation. Let me qualify this. This is likely the best the movie has EVER looked for home presentation, but it’s not a visually impressive movie no matter how it’s presented. There is some film grain but there is plenty of detail to be seen. It’s unbiased that the movie has no “pizazz” to it so to converse. There are no blemishes on the film and no queer compression artifacts at all. This is as it should be for an HD release.

The audio is DTS-HD lossless. The dilemma is that there really isn’t considerable that requires any directionality here. It’s mostly dialog driven with not mighty else going on in the sound field. The thing is, 5.1 audio in a movie like this really isn’t needed and I’m delighted that Fox didn’t try to dress the audio up needlessly. I may sound like a broken relate but this is also likely the best The Sail has sounded in the home market.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Fly! Click Here

The extras, as seems to be the case on many releases of films that already have DVD editions packed with extras, are all in standard definition. There are some Blu-Ray unusual extras that aren’t particularly powerful. The first is pop-up trivia during the film (you can turn this on and off) with fun production facts and so on. The other is a very uninteresting and annoying “game” called “Flyswatter.” You have this boring exciting wing flying around the conceal with some scenes from the movie playing in the background and the just is to swat the skim with an even slower keen flyswatter. It’s time wasting and really adds nothing of value to the disc.

If you already have the special edition SD release, given the video and audio doesn’t really stand out too remarkable in the HD front, you may want to reflect twice about picking up the Blu-Ray edition of The Sail. If you don’t absorb it and want a definitive edition with all the previous extras and the best possible audio and video, glimpse no further.

For a succor catalog release with microscopic appeal, I do assume the MSRP is a limited on the high side however.

David Cronenberg’s classic 1986 remake to the 1958 Vincent Notice classic, “The Wing”, has been re-released by “20th Century Fox”, in a 2 disc edition that is easily the definitive edition of the remake to “The Skim”. This is one must believe disc.

“Yeah, but, they’re lying. I’m not.”

After meeting him at a unusual science expo/convention, reporter Veronica Quaife decides to pick scientist Seth Brundle up on his offer – to present her his invention that will change the course of humanity. Upon arrival at his lab, Brundle shows Veronica his invention – a teleporter that can transport objects from one status to the other in a matter of seconds. Their is a obtain, however:

“I can only teleport inanimate objects.”

“Well, what happens when you teleport living things? ”

“Not while we’re eating.”

Seth convinces Veronica not to do an article for the magazine she works for (headed by her ex-beau Stathis Borans), but, instead, write a book about the whole experiment from the early stages to the reveal. With a new breakthrough, thanks to Veronica, Brundle “teaches” the teleporter to understand the complexties of living tissue. Also, a strong romance blossoms between the two.

When the breakthrough that Seth needs happens (a successful teleportation of a living animal (in this case a baboon) ) it’s time to celebrate.

But, not if Stathis Barons has anything to say about it. Veronica finds a portfolio with sketches of shroud artwork from her magazine with Seth & the teleporter on them. Veronica thinks that Stathis is trying to accept succor into her suitable graces & calls off the celebration to deal with Stathis once & for all. Stathis tells Veronica that he did some background checking on Brundle & decided to give him a choice article in an upcoming whine. Basically, if the only device of keeping Veronica in his life is to work with her on a professional basis, then that’s what he will do.

Seth, celebrating on his enjoy by doing champagne shots, gets a dinky jealous, as he gets wise to Veronica’s romantic past with Stathis.

“From “the desk of Stathis Borans”…, How about “under the desk of Stathis Borans? ”

Totally inebriated, Seth apoligizes to his baboon subject for destroying his brother in an earlier experiment & then, recklessly, decides to purchase the final test – human teleportation, with him as the subject. The experiment is a success – at first…

Over the next few days Veronica notices a expeditiously change in Seth. He gains superhuman like strength, with an increase in his sex drive. Also, exclusive prickly, hairs originate to grow from a nick on his abet. Veronica gets a sample & has them analyzed, with the results being that the hairs are insectoid in nature. Short tempered & hyperactively disturbed, Seth has Veronica thrown out of his lab & has the book deal terminated. The honeymoon is over.

“There was an frail lady who swallowed a flee, perhaps she’ll die.”

Seth does some further investigation of his bear &, to his panic, finds out that he wasn’t alone in the transmitter pod during the teleportation. A favorite housefly had made its device in & got trapped inside the pod with him.

“The computer got confused… -there wasn’t supposed to be two seperate genetic patterns – & it decided to…, uhh… splice us together. It mated us, me & the cruise. We hadn’t even been properly introduced.”

Seth’s body gruesomely deteriates & mutates, as he tries to figure out a cure for his cancer before he loses all senses of his humanity & mutates into a monsterous half-breed between Brundle & hover.

The 1986 remake of “The Coast” is one of those very rare remakes that does the impossible. It surpasses & outdoes it’s new.

Cronenberg does a broad job at directing & this is, argueably, his best film to date. Goldblum, Davis, & John Getz give tall performances with Goldblum being the stand-out. Almost anybody can wear the makeup, but, with those fly-like twitches, & the aches & worry of mutation, Goldblum gives “The Hover” its powerful needed buzz.

The earn is written & aloof by Howard Shore & I assume it to be one of the London Symphony Orchestra’s underated performances (the Orchestra also performed with John Williams on “Star Wars”, “Jaws”, “Superman”, & “Raiders Of The Lost Ark”) .

Mel Brooks’ movie studio “Brooksfilms” was the major backer on the film, with “Fox”.

David Cronenberg was the first choice for director on the project, but, was unavailable at the time trying his hand at directing “Total Prefer” for Dino DeLaurentis.

Robert Bierman was then hired for directing chores. But, when a horrific family tragedy called him assist home, Bierman backed out of the film & with Cronenberg having problems of his possess with DeLaurentis, Cronenberg easily slid into the director’s saddle on “The Sail”. It’s been 20 years since “The Flit” went into production &, to this day, Bierman has yet to stare the film (he’s reminded too powerful of his daughter’s death & the circumstances surrounding it, including this film & his association with it) .

After an extensive Cronenberg rewrite of Charles Edward Pogue’s screenplay, Jeff Goldblum was hired to report the doomed scientist. Goldblum was dating Geena Davis at the time & she auditioned for the role of Veronica. She was the first one to audition & the producer’s sized up her audition with the other actresses who tried out & no one could beat her. She got the role unanimously.

Makeup effects master, Chris Walas started make-up preparations for “The Soar” when he got a call from Steven Spielberg to work on “Gremlins 2″. Walas politely declined & his reward was an Oscar in make-up effects for “The Flee” (although, I’m not too determined if Walas & Spielberg have ever worked together again on any other project) .

The opening title shot with the fluttering of green wings that changed into the film’s title was actually taken from the coming attractions trailer to the film, after Cronenberg saw it & liked it so worthy that he customary for the opening title shot.

The film opened on August 15th 1986. Total box office substandard was roughly 40 million dollars (“The Skim” was released the same weekend as “Manhunter” (the Hannibal Lecter film) .

Audience reaction was mostly the same. Sinful! “People” magazine dubbed “The Skim” as the gross-out movie of the year. I saw “The Soar” on opening weekend & people were so grossed out. Especially, the scene when Brundle lends an ear to Veronica, & in return she hugs him on the same side! It was the valid same reaction that Geena Davis describes in the documentary. People were so grossed out that you couldn’t here the next three lines of the film. I mediate one lady left when Brundle-fly finally transforms into the situation bug at the ruin of the film.

This unique 2 disc DVD edition is awesome. In a world where movie studios assume their old-fashioned films & practically hurl them onto DVD, not caring about quality & prosperity, film wise, it’s nice to peek a release like this.

Disc 1 to “The Sail” has the film in the widescreen format with Dolby Digital 5.1 & DTS 5.1 (yes!), with a director’s commentary by Cronenberg.

Disc 2 has the three production documentaries that can be watched seperatley or viewed in a branching version (easter egg #1: using your DVD remote go to the documentary main page. Highlight the word “Play All” at the top & then hit left. If done correctly a green sail should appear. hit play/enter & Jeff Goldblum reveals how he feels he was destined to play the lead role in “The Flee”. One word describes the whole moment – “Halloweeners”! Absolutley, hilariously, bizarre & only Goldblum could disclose it) .

“The Brundle Museum of Natural History” featurette has Chris Walas showing all of the props & clay maquettes frail for the film.

Deleted scenes consists of the atrocious & horrible “Monkey-Cat” sequence (easter egg #2: using your DVD remote highlight the “Monkey-Cat” sequence entry on the deleted scenes menu, but, don’t hit enter. Instead go left. If properly done a green sail will appear. Hit enter & you will witness the unusual video of Brundle-fly demonstrating how his vomit-drop is archaic. This is the same video Stathis watches at Veronica’s apartment), a scripted, but not filmed, scene where Brundle-fly attacks a bag lady using his vomit-drop, & alternate endings with Veronica having a dream of a butterfly baby.

There is also test makeup footage, George Langdon’s unique short narrative, with tha film’s two screenplays by Pogue & Cronenberg.

The situation is rounded out with the usual trailers (easter egg #3: again, highlight “Play All” & go left with your remote. Hit play/enter & the disc takes you to a trailer menu of the three movies that were released in the summer of 1986 from “Fox”: “Expansive Misfortune In Microscopic China”, “Aliens” (woo-hoo!) & “The Hover” (duh!) . This egg was also weak for the 2 disc S.E. version of “China” a few years benefit), tranquil galleries, 2 FX articles & advertising from around the world.

This DVD re-release of “The Flee” is worth catching. Cruise strip optional.

I can’t even rationalize giving it 1 star because that implies it got 1/5 of “something” while I can’t contemplate that it did anything good, except plot up a lucrative platform to start millions of “fanfare” junk to market to kids i.e. numerous video games, coloring books, clothing, pc software, and soundtracks all appear when typing in Shark Story on amazon’s search.

After watching it with my principal other, we pondered off and on for about 24 hours trying desperately to consider of a worse movie that we have seen. Composed none have arrive to mind.

This movie plays off of every stereotype I can assume of. The “icy” dismal guy who raps and dances, the white guy that can’t dance or doesn’t know any cold hand shakes, the jamaicans that are plain, the italians that are mobsters, the white chick that is meek….and finally the unintended, me, the viewer that wants to puke. If my kids were subjected to this I would have a lot of explaining to do to dispell all the stereotypes that are maximized in this movie, ok that trivializes what my role of a parent would be if they were subjected to this…if I had taken any kid to stare this movie I would have left early, which isn’t an easy task with kids.

This movie shamelessly plugged so many consumer products I felt like I was sitting through one ample commercial, Gup instead of Gap, Guppy Kremes instead of Kristpy Kremes, Coral Cola instead of Coka Cola to name a few mock products which are positive advertisements for the loyal product due to the likeness in trademarks. Method to target that young market, corporate whores!

Also the correct of ths yarn seemed to be if you screw up about a hundred times, some chick will back you out, then you can screw over that chick about a hundred times, lie to the entire community, and in the destroy everyone will like you any blueprint and the chick will approach succor to you if you recall her balloons. Obliging MESSAGE FOR ALL!!

Oscar (Smith) the fish leads a normal life. He is objective an average guy working at the Whale Wash. One day, he wanders into shark territory and is chased by Frankie. Unfortunately for Frankie, the poke ends in his death, not at Oscar’s hands, but by pure accident. Oscar sees as an opportunity to “be someone”, and rapidly takes the credit. The fish world begins to call him the “Shark Slayer”, two female fish commence to reveal their interest, and the shark godfather (DeNiro) makes it his business to gather the murderer of Frankie…his son.

“Shark Legend” is yet another though-provoking movie that will appeal to both children and adults. The dissimilarity is, this time it almost seems made for adults first and kids second. The most sure references are to “The Godfather” and “Goodfellas”, two movies that no kids should have seen. Also, advertising placement has rush amok in this movie. Every plot you turn in the city, there are definite “fallacious ads” for actual products that is very distracting. Most everything in this movie is overkill, in fact.

The squawk talents are credible and the animation is salubrious, although I found Oscar to spy kind of creepy with his come human-looking face. “Shark Yarn” also is nothing like “Finding Nemo”, which is both well-behaved and unpleasant. Helpful, because it is not retreading material that is not too conventional yet. Terrible, because “Finding Nemo” was so worthy better. “Shark Anecdote” is a decent movie that will be enjoyed by most, and I did laugh a number of times while viewing it, but my advice is to wait for DVD.
